I've read here guys talk about finally getting the correct temp sending unit to make their gauge read correctly. My gauge is reading 210 and I just shot the radiator with temp gun it's reading 185. So where do I gewt a correct sending unit. It's a 68 327 car.

Might be wrong, but you will never get the same temp reading if you sample the temp at two distinctly separate locations using two distinctly different sampling methods.
I think that by trying to match the sending unit signal to what is in the radiator is the wrong way to go about it.
Here is the only way I can think of to get a perfectly accurate reading from the temp gauge.......
Pull the sending unit out and leave the wire connected. You would have to use an extension. Then, you would have to figure out how to ground the sensor back to the car. Put a pan of water on a camp stove or something and put the temp sending unit in the water. Put a good thermometer in the water. turn the key to "on". compare the gauge to the thermometer in the pan of water. You might be able to calibrate the sending unit by putting a variable resistor in line.
Unlesss......does anyone know if it's possible to calibrate the gauge itself?
How's that for some bubba fixin'! ?

I've done the resistor deal and was able to get correct readings putting the resistor in line, but a better solution was to buy the correct sending unit which I found available from Clocks by Roger.

Lectric Limited is the ONLY place I found one that was accurate and had the correct connector.
I tried one from rogers corvette clocks. It still seems wrong ... I used a heat gun too.... Then again I put it in with some sealant, which I now believe is a no-no; as the unit is not properly grounded. Is this correct?

Too much sealant could cause bad contact, but I tried mine with and without sealant and the readings were the same.
