Default zz383

Just finished my zz383 install with transgo shift kit in th350 trans, edelbrock air gap rpm manifold. holley street avenger 770 cfm carb, hooker sidemount headers with spiral turbo baffles, msd ignition in my 78 ex L-48. Whoa Nelly! what a difference. Only problem is hessatation when I nail it from dead stop. Anybody running close to the same setup? Timing is set at 32 degrees at 4000 rpm according to the installation specs with vacuum adv disconnested and plugged. Seems to be a great motor so far. It is a totally different car. Checked float levels etc, Help!

Have you checked your accelerator pump adjustments? If you're not getting the shot into the carb, you could have a bogging issue...

From what you're describing, it sounds like either a lean or rich condition: lean would be caused (IMHO) by either the accelerator pump kicking in too late, or the butterflies opening too quickly, causing vacuum to drop, and the fuel coming out of suspension in the air stream (i.e., again causing the air-fuel mixture to lean out). Too rich would be if you're getting TOO much fuel when you first drop the hammer (the accelerator pump linkage is too tight).

IIRC, you should have a gap of about .015" between the accelator pump arms, when the engine is at the idle setting.

Hope this helps...
