Default temporary oxygen sensor

has anyone ever installed a wide band oxygen sensor for tuning purpose only? I was thinking you could install one to tune the car and then just plug the hole with a plug when you were not using it.

People use those WB sensor setups all the time now, and report amazing results in power and mileage......it seems that many carbs, even OEM, arent tuned to their potential (and maybe gas has changed enough to make a difference).

The Colorado Corvette Crazys has jointly bought an LM1 unit and Lars has been welding bungs in the "members" cars. Of the handfull of cars tested so far, two have been right on and the others need some adjustments. One '69 tripower is rich on cruise, but that involves removing carbs to get to the jets. Stay tuned.

The LM1 comes with a bung and a plug for just that purpose. I like mine a lot. Then again, it interfaces directly to my laptop based tuning software so it makes EFI tuning a breeze.

are you just sampling one side, or do you use two sensors? one in each bank?

We are just sampling one side with the welded in bung. I guess you could check both tailpipes with that attachment. Checking just one side is not perfect, but certainly close enough for our purposes.

Ralph.
