Default aluminum intake performance question

My brother and I have both installed aluminum intakes on our cars and trucks when we went to a different style carburetor. I was thinking of putting one on my 71. It was a 270 horse 350. I recently rebuilt it with a .030 overbore, domed pistons giving it 9.8:1, lunati voodoo cam, and a mallory electronic conversion with a hotter coil. I am using a newly restored q-jet and exhaust manifolds. What kind of an increase would I see by using a stock height holley or edelbrock intake. Anything taller won't fit under the hood. I know the companies say they make more power, but I was wondering if it was worth it. Thanks.

I replaced the stock manifold and carb on a base engine 72 with an Edelbrock intake and Holley 750 carb and the engine definitely made more torque. After the change my clutch started to slip when I nailed it!

I don't know of a "stock height" Holley or Edelbrock intake. You'll likely have to make some additional changes such as a drop-base air cleaner if you go with a performance intake.

An edelbrock performer is very close to stock height and can use a
Q-jet or holley its drilled for both. I would guess about 12 to 15 hp
over the old cast iron manifold and around a twenty pound loss
of weight for your car.

Thanks for the help. I thought the low rise aftermarket intakes were the same height as stock. Is this going to fit? I am using a q-jet with the dual snorkel air cleaner and small block hood. Thanks.

EB 2101 or Weiand 8004 will fit 71 Qjet, filter & sb hood.

Thanks for the help. Does the weiand intake have a place for the factory choke coil? Some of them don't.

I went with the Edelbrock 2701 intake, 1406 carb and 1221 drop base air cleaner. It all fits under the stock hood. Also installed a new G.M. performance HEI.... It all tucked away very nice with the new crate motor. I gained another 100 hp over the original stock motor..
Yes, my Vette is even more fun to drive now. I can step on the gas and spin the tires if Im not careful. From day one, the original motor would only break them loose on gravel or a wet surface.

Yes ... W 8004 has same choke setup as stock ... as does eb 2101. Both also have a place to locate ignition coil bracket in stock position.

That an 80 ... 80 has more underhood clearance than 71 base 350 ... apples & oranges. Unless the OE carb was a complete flustercluck ... I question a new carb, filter, intake & ignition making 100 more hp on an otherwise stock motor.

Wow! Did that intake come with a nitrous oxide system that you failed to mention?

Where would I get a picture of a performance intake?

forget my asking for the picture of a performance intake, I just re-read the document I was quoting. I would like very narrow air cleaner as a drop down will not let my hood close. I had to fabricate one from a standard store replacement.
