The voltage regulator fried on my less than 1 year old NAPA premium alternator. While I know its under warranty, I'm wondering if I want to put another one on. Looking back my napa starter didnt last that long either. Trying to avoid future problems who makes the best rebuilt or new 10SI? I have a 63 amp and when working it handles the load perfectly...its just I'm tired of replacing parts that should have lasted longer.
I recently replaced my 63amp rebuilt alternator with a used CS-144 from a 96 Cadillac Deville. My old mounting brackets lined up, I had to purchase a wiring adapter (20 bucks), though its simple to make one yourself. The alternator can put out well over 100 amps, which is nice, but more importantly it is almost bulletproof. The pulley from your 63 amp fits right on, the install is quite simple. Several forum members have went this route with considerable success... if you think this might work for you, PM me and I can sell you a used one, 90 day warranty, $50 bucks plus shipping.
why buy another one anyway - all of them are remanufactured units as it is.
find a local shop that rebuild starters and alternators and get it rebuilt. I had mine done and it was about $45 and took 2 days and it's been working perfectly. A local guy who is good is probably going to do a better job than some factory churning out 300 remanu units a day.
BarryK makes a good point - a lot of remans are "repaired and cleaned" not actually rebuilt. Often times a used original is better quality. I am biased though, I work at a salvage yard.
