I want to put a 16 x 8 torq thrust D on my 74, I would like to have Radial T/As on there as well (or whatever has a raised white letter) ...what size tire would I need to do this and keep the instrument calculations correct, also if anyone has any pics of the 16 in wheel on their car I'd love to see them.
the bad thing about 16's is tire size's are really small selection.17's would a better choice, and I think Firestone does some raised letter tires for them.discountpartscenter has a size calculator to help decided tire size's,they also offer good prices on tires
I've got 16's on my 69, using BFG T/A's, 255/60R16 - 98V M+S for both front and rear. I personally like black letters, but thought about white for a little while before going with black.
Watch your offset to clear the calipers. I can't remember (must be that old age thing) but I think mine was 4.25".
I've had no problems with rubbing or anything, and IMOO, I think they look friggin' great! Almost all comments from my car buds were that the wheels made the car..
thanks for the help guys but i think my idea of RWL letter tires and 16 inch rims is going by the wayside, I've looked everywhere for a size that will work, the only thing I've found remotely close is a 50 series, but thats kind of small

A 50 series wouldn't look bad if you lowered the car just a little to take the openness out of the wheel wells, plus a 50 will handle awesome.
L88 you are right! I have 235/50 and 255/50 16's on my 71 vette. I went with Dunlop 8000's. They handle alot better than the 255/60/15', BFG T/A's that I had before. I would NOT go back to BFG TA's. However it took me a little while to adjust to looking at the added 0.5" of gap at the back. I need to lower it just a touch to compensate. Most all of the people comment on how much they like the wheels, I run the orginal looking Torque Thrusts, 16 x 8". Almost like a period wheel in looks , ... but not too big like a 17" which looks "modern" sort of. I was going for the "old school" look I guess.

I think if I fit the VBP 550 springs up front to drop ~ 1" and torque down on the spring bolts on the back that should do it. What do you all think?
