I recentlly purchased a 71 and noticed the hood sits to low between the fenders. The hood is approx. 1/2 inch lower than the fenders through the center area. There is a weatherstrip at the front but I was wondering if there should be some sort of rubber bumpers on the sides to maintain this height or if there is a way to adjust? The height appears fine at both the front and rear of the hood. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.
My 71's hood was like that until I changed out the radiator support (rust) and when I put it all back together I noticed that the hood in the front was about 1/4 inch higher than the front of the the car where the head lights are. After loosing all the fasteners I got it back to normal. My car had also had prior damage to the right front so you might want to check for any collision repairs. The only rubber I have on mine is the radiator seal on the support and also the weatherstripping on the back of the hood itself. I don't know if there are any rubber bumpers along the fenders as mine does not have any in this location. You could probally get some shims for the catalogs and try to shim under the hinges. My new raditor support came with a bunch of shims. My friend has a 75 and the rear of his hood near the windsheild at the fenders is about 1/4 to 1/2 inch higher in the corners of the hood. It seems like the hood latches are not adjusted correctly...if anyone knows how to do this please let him (Petty44) know.
Yur problem may be just the regular :chevy fit and finish quality.

Yes there are OEM type rubber bumpers, installed by gluing them in appropriate spots, between front and rear hood areas to address this very problem you are having. Check with one of the many corvette parts vendors, believe most will have these bumpers listed in their catalogs.
John's 81 Mouse is correct. The aftermarket providers carry hood ledge blocks to solve your problem. They fit into the rain gutters on the fenders and raise the hood. Placement is trial and error until you obtain the fit you want. You may have to trim the undersides of the blocks if they make the hood sit too high right out of the box. Have at it.
