Default Simple power boost

Hi
I have a 79 c3 with SB L48, and edelbrock carb.
otherwise everything is stock.
what would be the least work to get the most power out of the engine?
new cams? new headers? other..? anything that doesn't mean taking the whole engine apart.
I have some short headers lying around..
any help is appreciated.

Headers with a re-jet are the best bang for the buck on any engine.

1. Ensure you have proper thermostat so motor runs at proper temp ... not too cool ... not too hot.
2. True dual exhaust. If legally possible, remove/gut catalytic convertor.
3. More cam ... but not too much ... such as Summit K1103 cam-lifter kit.
4. Install thin steel shim (0.015") head gaskets ... such as Felpro 1094.
5. Freshen distributor up & optimize curve.
6. Tune/optimize carb.

OK
catalytic convertor is out.
what is the correct temp for thermostat?
I have a new distributor in (Mallory) with vacuum advance, I find it makes a huge difference depending how the vacuum advance is set and changes all the time with the weather/temperature so it seems to me.
I don't know much about carb tuning etc..

Buy a book & learn or find someone that knows how to tune.
