Default C3 upgrades

A friend of mine just bought a 68 Vette off of Ebay. He had originally intended it to be more of a show car, however; the car wasn't quite the show quality he expected and he now wants to make it more of a daily driver with an occasional track day (HPDE) thrown in from time to time. He asked me what to do to the car to make it so, and I told him track days are mostly about braking and handling. Can anyone please suggest some good upgrades he can do to make the car more track worthy. Specifically, what parts to get and where to get them. Thanks.

VB&P and Vansteel are the Corvette suspension experts. Call them and they'll give you some good options.

I tried searching for VIP but didn't come up with anything. Thanks for all the suggestions so far though. I'll pass this info on to my friend.

Google "Corvette FAQ" and look up the "Vette Improvement Program" under "Suspension" - keep in mind that the article is around 20 years old, and some technologies have changed.

Make sure to replace all the steering components ... p/s control valve, idler arm, drag link, tie-rod ends. All of these wear out and make the steering very sloppy over time. Stock system isn't too bad if it is fresh. Do a search on here regarding steering and you 'll find a couple other alternatives.

And like the others suggested, check with VanSteel or VBP and read the VIP article by Greenwood. Best advise you can find.

you should do the following mods:

1) lighten the car first thing: get rid of A/C, heater, power windows, spare wheel and ancillaries, get alu wheels if you have steel ones, get the heavy stock seats out of the way and replace with lightweight race seats, get rid of front and rear unbelievable heavy steel defences, change stock light for fix ones, if your investment in the car goes further get alu heads and intake, an alu radiator will greatly help save weight too, for a start this could be enough.

2) suspensions: front transverse sistem and rear FG springs, better shocks all round.

3) brakes: get rid of the jurassic heavylikehell calipers and get superlight ones (willwoods are very good), hydroboost is very helpfull to get a better sensitive braking.

van steel is a very good supplier and dan is pretty helpfull and always available you can contact him for quite a few of the above iussues...generally though all sponsors here are quite good and pretty reliable.

have fun and good luck

These cars can be lightened a great deal. Just look around at all the possibilities. Convert heavy production stuff to aluminum (brakes, front rotors, cyl. heads, intake manifold, water pump, wheels, drop the spare or convert to a light weight racing rim, radiator, ...).
