Driving yesterday on the freeway and I noticed the shifter lever vibrating a lot. I seem to have 1 to 1 1/4 inch of play in the shifter lever when it's in any gear. I guess I really never gave it much thought before. Is this what you guys experience? Trans is an M-20 in a 69 coupe, Hurst linkage, stock style shifter lever. Movement is mostly up and down, not much side to side. Would like to know if this is normal. Thanks
Get underneath and tighten everything up
Should only require 9 1/6" wrench
MAKE SURE you secure the car from rolling as tightening the rods where they bolt to the side cover will most likley cause the car to come out of gear.
Make sure all linkage is set to neutral when your done as it is possible to have it in a forward gear and reverse at the same time....letting the clutch out at this point will most likley not lead to a happy ending.
