Yesterday I was tightening a header bolt when I touched the master cylinder with the wrench. Sparks flew! There were no wires to be found.
I am assuming a ground problem; but you you know what happens when you assume.
I see ground wires from the valve cover to the wiper motor and from a
spot on the block to the frame.
What are the original grounding points? Should there be a ground on the master cylinder? Am I barkig up the wrong tree? Is the problem caused by something else? Any input would be greatly appreciated.
Yea, probably a grounding problem, or lack of grounding. How much sparking? Big time like the full 12v? My first thought is that there is a short circuit/pinched wire, under the dash??, and the mc is energized, but it won't blow a fuse because it's not grounded. So, the wrench completes the circuit. Start with a 12v test light. Clip it on a good ground and start probing around to find what is hot. Then find out why it is hot, if is isn't suposed to be. I have installed a couple of extra ground wires in various locations--under dash, engine compartment. etc. Couldn't hurt, and may help.
