A real basic question, but is there a trick to where to clip jumper cables when jumpstarting? There is no space to clip those cables on thopse little battery terminals in the tight battery compartment.
The first thing you need to do is ditch the side post battery, or replace it with something like an Optima that had both. The car can connect to the side posts leaving the top posts for things like extras and jumping OTHER people's cars because you have an Optima.
Other than that, there is no trick to hooking up cables to side post batteries in a Vette.

I always put in the ones with both the top and side mount and hook up the car using the side mounts which leaves the top free for jumping. Remember to leave the plastic caps on the top terminals as the battery will slowly lose charge if they are not covered.

Or you can buy a battery disconnect, which hooks to the side posts. It will give you a very good place to hook up your jumper cables. Not to mention the safety aspects of being able to disconnect your electrical system when it is sitting idle.
I remember seeing some copper/brass clips one time that evidently came with some vettes to extend the battery posts for jump starting. Anyone know what I am talking about?

I have seen brass posts that connect on the side mounts that point up giving you a nice clip for the jumper cables to connect to. There are available for any side mount battery and are always there so you can do a quick jump. I think that they come with a plastic sleeve that fits on them and you would want to leave this on and only remove for jumping.

I used to have some of those brass things, but back then I didn't know what they were so I ditched them. They were under the driver's seat of one of my Vettes. I found them when I was cleaning it after I bought it.
It had a sidepost battery. First I added the full size posts and converted to standard terminals, and then later changed to a top post battery for convenience. I won;'t ever go back to side posts unless I have to.
i ran two #2 cables from the sideposts of the optima(positioned at the back of the battery ) through the battery box and to the tie down strap under the bumper. now i just jump from outside easily.

I did that to my old Ramcharger. Because the thing is so huge and sits so high I wanted outside access to be a little easier. I installed soem capped off battery leads and hide them behind the grill.
