Default 1981 Stock Corvette - Engine "lundges"

For the second time in 2 years, my 1981 Corvette lunged while in gear (automatic). Started car and kicked automatic choke down - running around 900 RPMs. Placed car up ramps to check under the car. While holding foot on brake pedal, engine started racing wildly - Tac indicated 7,000 RPM. I immediately put car in Neutral and shut off the engine. Re-started the engine and it seemed to idle back in the 900 RPM range although Tac was stuck at 7,000. Reved the engine in neutral a few tomes and the Tac went back to 800 RPMs. As stated, this is the second time in 2 years this has happened. Drove the car last weekend and everything was fine. Drove it today, and everything is fine. Has anyone else experienced a situation like this? I've re-checked the carburator choke setting, carburator linkages, throttle linkage, carpet, motor mounts, etc. and everything is OK. I don't think it's a mechanical problem e.g. Carburator, linkage, etc. Could it be the Computer Command System? I thought that only adjusted air mixture and timing advance and don't see whete even if fully advancing distributor it would race to 7,000 RPMs. Anyone???

Only thing I could think that could maybe do something like that is the cruise control solenoid closing and yanking the throttle back. That's all I can think of, though.

Hmmm, that makes sense. Nothing else could cause the RPMs to go so high, but cruise control is directly hooked to that chain on the throttle linkage. I'll look at it tomorrow. Thanks!
