Default dual fan question

Anyone running a dual electric fan set up, do you have both fans kick on at the same time with the electric thermo switch or do you have one running all the time and the other kick on with the thermo switch? Thanks for any help!

The front valance wasn't secured, so I secured it

I have the dual 11" Spal unit with a progressive controller that varies fan speed according to engine temp. It also has a soft start feature that when it starts the fans it does so slowly to minimize the electrical surge to the alternator. I like it, no voltage gauge deflections when the fans start, and fan speed tied to the engine temp requirements.

Dual Spals tied together. Both come on at 195 off at 185. No reason to have one running all the time since I get enough airfolow on the highway to keep the car cool.

I have Tuned-Port so I let the ECM control 1 and have a temp switch in the head for the other.

I ran mine that way for a while but I went one step further. I added another sensor and changed the operation to where both fans are controlled independently. One fan is controlled by a sensor located in the head, the other fan is controlled by an intake sensor. This will keep them from coming on at the same time even though both sensors are rated 195/175. What I have found so far is the head controlled 11" fan works sufficent enough for cooling that the intake one never has come on....even at prolonged idling in the heat of summer. Another plus is if the head controlled fan or sensor was to fail, the intake controlled fan would then operate for cooling. I mounted two small led's in my dash so I can monitor when the fans are running. Seems to work very well.
