I've heard some say you can do this without removing the spindle but it has to be almost as big a PITA as removing the spindle. If you do remove the spindle do a search in the archives for instructions. I think it was GTR1999 that posted very detailed instructions with lots of pics. Do not beat it out with the big dog hammer or you will be needing lots of parts.
Yep, got to agree.
Studs are to long to come out with Hub in place.
means knock the spingle out, replaceing the stud and reinstalling the spindle.
GTR1999 is the guy, so is Tracdogg2
I have replace all my rear studs with longer 3 inch morosso studs and upgraded to 1/2 inch at the same time. All done ON the car.
If you do not have bacing plates replacing studs is simple but if you do you will have to cut the plate in one spot.
The drives side come out at the 9 oclock postion and the passengers side at the 3 oclock position.
If it is the drivers side and the stud is at 9 oclock you will have to trim the backing plate but there is room in this location to hammer the stud out, install the new one and draw it in with the wheel nut.
A number of people on the forum besides myself have upgraded on the car.
Yes it can be done without removing the spindle-but its a little tricky-you have to dislodge the park shoes and remove the adjuster and if the springs come off your going to be cussing-shorten the bad stud to make it come out easier-you have to feed the new stud into hole from the back at an angle and then rotate spindle and it will go into the hole-if you dont care about it being the same length as the others make it easier by cutting an 1/8 off it-it will still come thrugh the nut-------if you dont have patience---remove spindle

Aha! When I disassembled my hubs, I found that someone had smashed a 1/2" hole through the disk brake shield using a punch. I used a hammer and dolly to put it back into shape, then filled the remaining hole with filler. I couldn't figure out why anyone would do this. Now I realize they were replacing a stud and couldn't be bothered to take things apart. I've found these "Bubba droppings" all over my car, but this one had me stumped until this morning.
