Default 79 Window Problems

Im sure this has been covered but I could not find it anywhere.
1979 power windows, window will only raise about 3/4 of the way up then a loud clicking noise occurs. You can then pull it up manually but it will not go all the way up with the window motor. Any help?

sounds like regulator gear-is the clicking over and over like a gear is stripped?

my passenger side did the same thing... it'll go up know but starts chattering and jiggling after half way...got a feeling it's the regulator as well. That or my anti rattle cushion is in need of replacement.

Does it make the noise going down. I would suspect the reg. gear and
a broken or weak spring. Mine was broke on driver door and did not know it until I installed a new outside door handle. It went up slow and
down very fast. The spring was lying in the bottom of door. I installed
a revised version from a ford in which I could install without taking the regulator out to help out until next year. How in the world you get them out thru that small opening is beyond me but guess you take the
glass out and take everything apart.

The last few teeth are stripped on the regulator. There are kits available to repair the regulator. Be sure to replace the spring if it's broke. Without the spring the regulator teeth wear out much faster.

Please update us on the spring replacement. Last month my passenger side spring broke. Goes down lightning fast and up very slow. I have it all the way up right now with a strip of electrical over the switch until I get the time to pull the door apart to fix it. I would like to get away with just the $25 replacement spring if possible.
Good luck
