Default Rear Window Defogger

Anyone know the wire colors and where the wires go to on the fuse panel for the rear window defogger on a 81 vette ? Sometimes the fogger will work properly other times it's a no go. Any help would be great , has me stumped. Thnx Dave

in the fuse box its the PWR ACCY circuit breaker and the 20 amp gage fuse-do you know its not working because the lights not on or it doesnt take fog off the glass?

White,

Check for corrosion in the braided wire the runs from the window to the main rear harness. They like to corrode right there and cut power to the window.

If the light on the switch doesnt come on there is no power going to the window. The light feed is on the window side of relay switch combo.

In the back widow you have a wire grid, at the top of the grid you have a power wire on the driver side and a ground wire located on the passenger side. You will have to remove the rear upper window trim mouldings to see the wires. But to locate them quickly, they are at the top of the glass right in front of the third wire from the side. So, start at the first grid wire in the window and count inward three wires.

The positive wire where it’s hooked up to the grid will corrode if you have had the rear window leaking. In cases where you have a car that has had water standing inside it from another water leak, it will also corrode this connection. (Don’t forget to check the plug connector where the positive wire plugs to the main harness, it’s a single black wire with a single spade connector on it.

Check the ground wire real good under the bolt where it bolts to the header of the car. It will also corrode either from a water leak, or humidity present in the cockpit of the car.

And lastly check the continuity of the wire grid to make sure you don’t have any breaks in it. There are repair kits available for them. But if one wire is broke in the grid, the defroster will not work.
