anybody ever heard of such a thing? i'd like to coat my chambers and piston tops prior to engine assembly but the only place in town that ceramic coats wants $500+ to do it. if it was a full race motor, maybe, but a street motor, i may just live without it. i'd give it a try myself if there is such a thing. didn't see anything in the eastwood catalog.
Try searching for Caswell plating .com. Up here in NY. They sell coating to auto hobbiests. Along with powder coatings and platings I think they carry ceramics as well.
I had www.swaintech.com do all my pistons and chambers. Steve632 up in Washington does all his own stuff. It only requires about a 500 degree oven to bake the coatings on.
I do all my own coatings using the techline products. The hardest part is getting it to stick before backing. The second hardest part is getting up the nerve to sand balst the parts to get the stuff to stick. Even places like Jet Hot and HPC sand blast the areas to be coated, so its nothing out of the ordinary. Mask off everything really good then lightly sand blast the area you want to coat. then get a cheap siphon feed spray gun from harbor freight or cummins tools and spray on the coatings. Do not clean the gun with any solvents other than water. This will give you a bad result on any future projects. The coatings tend to clump when they come in contact with any kind of laquer thinner.
baking the items once coated can be fun. If you are coating items that have had time to soak in oil be prepared for a smoky 30 minutes in the oven.
thanks for the responses guys. looks like i'll have to pass this time around since 1) i have no sandblasting cabinet and 2) the wif-i-poo would have me by the short hairs for putting engine parts in our oven!
