I have a 72 LT1 matching#'s
I rebuilt it from ground up.
stock heads, hyd cam 228 dur (I dont have stock cam, solid)
750 double pumper, edlebrock intake
hooker headers, side pipes w/ glasspack
m21 tran 4 spd, 370 gears
I guess i have around 255-270 hp rear wheels
Im thinking about edlebrock 64cc 202 heads
w/ comp cam xe274 230 236 dur w/ .48 lift
or xe284 240-246 dur w/ .50 lift
roller rockers
Question, how much more rear wheel hp will i gain and will the lower part of the motor handle the increase of power?
SHould I go with the xe274 or 284?
I dont race, drive around street, I drive hard. sometimes on highway.
I would go with the bigger cam. Stick to solid lifters, they require very little maint. The lower end can take it no problem. I drove my stock bottom LT1 very hard spinning it to 7000 rpm. I ran a solid 248 @ .050 dur. with a .525 lift with AFR heads for quite a while. It had a lot more power than the LT1 stock ever had. I sold the short block to a forum member and it is still running strong with slightly less cam tha nI had due to an automatic. You can see my current setup in my signature. I like to run a big solid flat tappet cam. Lots of rpm potential.
