First let me say thanks for all the great information on this site. I bought my 1st vette last month (1982) after 15 years of dreaming about it. Over all it's in good condition except for some quirky problems. Does anyone have info on what I need to do to get my gauge lights working (speedo/tach as well as center cluster). I read some threads and saw that the headlight switch is usually the culprit so i changed the switch and all the bulbs (#194) in the speedo/tach cluster. Hooked everything back up and the gauge lights still don't work - the turn signals and high beam indicators works though. The ground on the left pillar is connected. Any help would be appreciated!!
The other culpirt could be the bulb holders, and the trace contacts. Make sure the springs are good and springy? on the bulb holders and take an emory cloth to the contact patches of the traces and the bulb holders. This fixed my lingering bad bulbs after I replaced the switch.
If you have a multi meter the easy say to fond the source of the problem it to follow the +12V. Find a good ground and then keep looking for electricity, check the hot side of the switch, the cold side of the switch, the connector to the printed curcuit board, and then at the traces. The first place you don't have voltage is the culprit.
