Default Oil Pan..Good? Bad?

Here are some pics of the oil pan that was included with my 400 block. The windage tray is a good idea, but are those swinging "trap" doors OK for street driving? I know they are necessary for oil control in autocross, circle track, drag etc.. but will it hinder the oil pressure or flow in everyday low RPM stop & go traffic? My Melling pump has pleanty of clearance & is ready to install.

Thanks guys
Eddie

I don't see how it could be a bad idea. The trap door keeps more oil in the oil pump pick-up area and not sloshing around in the pan.

My first impression of your pan is how does the oil get to the pickup? I assume your pickup sits in the welded up area that appears to have no way for the oil to enter this area other then leaking along the pan floor or overflowing into this sump.
I don't really like the design. Then again I could be reading the picture wrong

Still need more pics. I can't tell if this pan is for drag, circle (left turn) or RR. The number & placement of doors will usually tell.

Are there more dams on the driver side than passenger?

I looked a bit closer. Appears to be a "claimer" pan for left turn only hobby/claimer circle track racer. Very common in left turn only hobby/claimer (circle track) classes; essentially a stock pan that's had a kit welded in. Center door inhibits alota oil from going forward when braking. Driver side door allows oil to transfer left-to-right ... but inhibits alota oil from transferring right-to-left. It'd probably be ok for street ... BUT ... you may need a special pickup/screen to fit correctly in gated sump ... maybe not ... dunno. Same type pan available already kitted for around $45-$75. Reference a Kevko P/N 2001.

Jackson:
One trap door on each side of the dam. Standard capacity SB pan. I compared it to my original GM SB pan and looks to be the same externally.
