I was going to stick my RPM Air Gap on today but I remembered about the transmission kickdown bracket that goes under 2 bolts on the rear driver's side. I pulled the bracket off the old engine in hopes of cleaning it up and reusing it, but I found that the last owner of the car completely cut off the front leg that bolts to the manifold. There is only one leg left and I don't trust that for holding the tension on my new 700r4. So I need a new one.
My question is, should I get a replacement bracket similar to this one that mounts on the intake manifold bolts or do they make one that bolts elsewhere and holds both the throttle and the tranny kickdown?
Also, I still have the original throttle cable with the bracket that goes under the carb, does this bracket work with a mighty demon carb? I'm trying to sort out brackets so I don't have to reseal a manifold later due to removing bolts and installing a bracket.
just went thru the same setup with air gap rpm manifold on my 78. found the perfect bracket while browsing in advance auto! ask for mr.gasket part number 6039, $18.88 and it should solve your problem. go to mr. gasket website and look up carb linkage and brackets or enter part number to check it out. this bracket solved the problem for me as the stock bracket would not fit a vortec intake.
good luck!
Capt T, I saw that one in O'Reily's today but I hesitated to get it.
That one bolts to the carb stud/bolt and holds both the throttle and kickdown cables? Is
the geometry correct with the kickdown cable?
the geometry was correct for my setup. just had to adjust the kickdown setting. I am running zz383 with vortec air gap rpm manifold, holley 770cfm street avenger carb and th350 trans. bracket has hold stubs to hold it in place on the carb stud. this bracket was just about perfect for this application and it looks good to! have stock kickdown detent cable for 350, fits bracket fine.
Make sure whatever bracket you use is designed for a 700r4 not a Turbo trans. It will cause you problems. You can get a kickdown bracket through Lokar www.lokar.com or Bowtie Overdrives www.700r4.com
