Default 1980 Attenae mast

Motor runs mast stays up.
I have a kit to replace the strip inside the mast, but the kit has no instructions for installation. Do I have to remove the entire unit {up behind the mufflers} or is there an easy way? Does anyone have any experience with this? ? thanks in advance.

1.Unplug everything from under the carpet (behind the driver in the rear compartment over tire). Look for big rubber plug at rear to push the pigtails out through.

2. Remove Bezel from top of fender by unscrewing it. You might want to protect the fender before attempting this. Tape it off.

3. Remove 4 bolts from behind catalytic converter and the whole rear exhaust system will fall out.

4. Remove antenna from under car. Disconnect the signal cable if you have not already done so.

5. CAREFULY drill out the rivits that hold the plastic antenna housing together. You can't get a replacement housing so try not to crack it. You will need some nuts and bolts to re-assemble later. Some times the rivits just spin in the housing. It helps if you have a Dremel tool here to grind them out the rest of the way.

6. unscrew the top doo-dad from the antenna mast. Pull out the old mast and replace with new parts.

7. Reverse the above and you should be done. Use nuts and bolts to reassemble the housing.

Hope I did not forget anything. It is not that bad of a job even for a beginner. I have done it a few times myself.

-Mark.
