As far as the oil pressure goes, it'll be fine with a bad rod (the very last thing to get oil), but low with a bad main. If you don't find anything in the top end, which tends to be more 'rattle' or loud tapping than knock, consider pulling the pan. It's a fairly easy job on a C-3, and if it's a rod it'll be easy to find. I wouldn't run it any more than absolutely necessary until you find the cause. Be a bummer to ventilate the block!
Well tonite I hope to get a better idea of where the noise is coming from. If I can't pinpoint it, I'm gonna drain the oil and open the filter and look for metal shavings.
Unfortunately, I'm going out of town this weekend so anything more in-depth is going to have to wait till next week.

Take your time, don't rush, and don't stop looking if you find something it COULD be. It's easy to see when rod bearings are worn and slapping. Look for wear, and while you have the pan off, and you're looking at them, have a buddy turn the crank by hand. Back and forth like he was pretend driving a steering wheel. You should see some play in one or some if there is a bad bearing. Remember, if they were fine they would be tight and not give any in any direction.
Well, after starting it up last nite and listening to it I'm about 90% certain that it was just an exhaust leak (actually several of them), but I am going to pull the oil pan anyway just to be certain.
If the bottom end looks good, I'm going to replace the headers.
And, I convinced my wife that as long as we are replacing them, we might as well put on sidepipes!
Definitely going with Hookers and a set of Cobra heat shields. Still undecided about what inserts to use.
I have a link at home I'll post later. They are known to be the best for aftermarket inserts.
What will the pipe's inside diameter be?
Don't write off rod bearings yet. In fact, it would be a good idea on an engine that old to drop the crank, turn it, and replace all the bearings and crank seals.
