Default VIR A/C Experts needed....

Hello all:

After bringing it back to life my A/C has started to scream, moan and grone...is it the POV??

All of a sudden it started to make a groaning noise right from the VIR assembly, seems like a valve is stuck maybe? Compressor is fine and the noise is definately from the VIR.

How common is sticking valves, do they clear up, need persuading with a mallet or complete replacement? I'd like to stick to OE, how are reliable are replacement VIR assemblies?

Thanks

Default update

Another thing that is odd, is that when I turn the ignition to position #1 and not run the engine, but put the system into AC max or norm, same sound occurs, even if I unplug the compressor and low pressure shut off, the shreak happens as soon as the AC is turned on. What could cause this???
The VIR has no electrical connections, what valvle is being triggered when the A/C is turned on?

TIA

It sounds like you need a blower motor.

Thanks Mike...What a moron I am didn't check the obvious there and sure enough same noise in vent or heat mode...i.e. blower, but it's still trying so I'll take it out to see if it can be fixed.

Default the blower it is...

well took out the blower and I could replicate the sound spinning it by hand, so I took the thing apart and checked it out. Seems the bushing needed some lube oil, cleaned out the contacts and the chassis grounding points, applied dielectric gel and reassembled. Now she spins freely.

Pic of the parts:

Tomorrow she goes back in after I clean out the evap chamber hopefuly that cures it.

Thanks guys for your help,

As to the VIR, how's its reliability?
Bill

Vir's usually only fail from dirt or lack of enough oil in the system. Use it even in cold weather occasionally, just to keep it from sticking.

Thanks noonie,
When it does get stuck are there any specific symptoms, noises issues etc? Or does the hose just blow and then you know? My system has been down for a while and I replaced the desicant bag and o-rings on the lower half of the VIR, flushed, added a new compressor and filled. She was running for about an hour before the noise from the blower had me spooked.

Any and all info is always appreciated

You should be alright. If anything fails, it just won't cool as well. It's all about reading the guage pressures and temps. They tell you everything.

Thanks noonie, being new to this system what kind of pressures high/low would you consider normal with an ambient air temp of 90 deg?
