Well, long story short....Mallory HEI out, Old HEI in, started up and ran fine. I was getting some spark with the Mallory but I suppose it was too weak to do anything. So, back to Summit goes the Mallory. I'm pretty disappointed in it, but also glad it wasn't anything more than that. I did not want to chase down a ground. Makes me wonder what kind of crap Mallory makes though!
Glad you got it figured out. So did you put on the "melonized" gear? I'm not 100% sure what it's for but I believe the stock gear may be too soft. I was told it was important to make the switch.
I pulled all the plugs out and tested each one.. they were all bad!!! And these were brand new plugs!!! I had an old set on the bench and put this ein and they all worked perfectly.

I'm going to plead the fifth on the melonized gear. I've never actually heard the term. My old distributor works ok, but it's pretty beat. I don't think the vac advance works as good as it should because I definitely lost some power with the timing set the same. But hey, the car is once again self propelled!!
Pssibly what one other member posted was that the whole lot of plugs that were made were bad!! Could have broken insulators down inside where you can't see it. They look fine and were not fouled at all. Clean as a whistle. It's the darnest thing!
I used a spark plug tester, and an external power source. I know sometimes you can never be assured that a new part is working properly, but I have never had issues with plugs before. Weird stuff. Anyway, had a formal last night and didn't get home till late. Will fire it up today and see how she goes!!
