Who makes flat top pistons that are the most detonation resistant and seals the best? With so much spent on making efficent chambers it seems a shame to ignore the other half of the chamber. What kind of features should I be looking for?

I agonized over this for a while too. I wanted forged pistons because of the resistance to detonation. I also heard you got to warm them up good because of piston slap. Didn't want my new motor knocking. They generally expand more so you have to have looser tolerances to begin with. Found a great compromise. Mahle makes a forged hi silicon low expansion piston. Mahle powerpak piston set comes with rings and pins for a little over $500 in a variety of sizes and domes for most applications. They have been supplying Porche and Mercedes in stock and racing applications for over 30 years. They were within 1 gram and less than .0005 out of the box, .0025 piston to wall clearance spec., and guess what is standard equipment in the new ZO6? Mahle! Who would have thought, german pistons in a Corvette! Wouldn't use KB hyper's in my lawnmower.
you're another one who obsesses about how to build the perfect car all the time and probably never drive what you got.
Ya know, I've been on this forum for nearly a year now and I don't recall a positive comment from you towards anybody. Are you one of those people who despise their own species?

I've heard only good things about Mahle pistons....and the powerpak that Mako speaks of sounds like a perfect match for what you need.
Good luck in your search!
Pump gas 383's are everywhere, and run just fine...!!!
It's easy to say that, but you don't know his top end specs. He could be trying to run a 58cc head for all we know. Do you have any idea what kinda compression that would give him. I doubt it would be happy on pump gas only.
