im trying to locate the adjustment procedures for the shifter on the 69 4 speeed, its a big block car, recently it started hanging up in reverse and lately been having a hard time getting into most gears, doesnt grind ....just doesnt want to go.anyone?
If you look closely at the rear of the levers that are on the shifter itself, you will see small indentions. When the proper adjustment of the rods are made the indentions will line up.
In neutral, you should be able to slide a 1/4" drill bit clear thru all 3 levers. It will fit into the indentations on both sides of the shifter case as well.
Note that your problem sounds like a clutch adjustment, not releasing all the way. Adjust the rod from the Z-bar to the cluth fork a little longer and try it. I like the clutch to just "load" the motor 4" off the floor. If all the linkage is right that should leave you with an inch of freeplay at the top.
hey ...thanks for the information,i will check the clutch adjustment first(and keep my fingers crossed).I had a question about the linkage indentations, can this be checked from inside the car with the shifter cover removed or does it need to be done from underneath ?
