Default Gearing ration in 1980 L48

Anyone know what the stock gears are in an 80 L48. It has a Dana 44 rearend and I have changed the motor and transmission,...now its time for the rearend stuff. I have a 383 at 450 hp with a bowtie overdrive 770R4 stage 3. Also, a 100 shot of nitrous, and need more take off from the line, but still want some highway speed too.

If it came with a turbo 350 it has 3.08s.

3.07 if you want to be exact. That's what it says in the Owner's manual, at least.

It is 3.07. I have no idea what happened to the .001 from the old 3.08 but everything I read says 3.07. I also have an '80.

..... why-guess?

The car is 25+ years-old, and the gears may've been changed before you got it:
best to jack it up, rotate the drive-shaft, count axle-revolutions, and know FOR-SURE!

All 1980 Vettes had 3.07s whether Auto or 4-speed.

The difference in a 3.07 and a 3.08 just comes from the ratio of the ring gear to the pinion gear.
This is a chart I made to show the number of teeth on the ring and pinion gears and how this determines the ratio.

63-79 GM

2.73...........41/15
3.08...........37/12
3.36...........37/11
3.55...........39/11
3.70...........37/10
4.11...........37/9
4.56...........41/9

3.73...........41/11 Richmond aftermarket

80-82 Dana 44

2.72...........?????
2.87...........43/15
3.07...........43/14

Don't know the tooth count on the 2.72 gearset, if anybody knows would appreciate posting it, thanks.

I believe I saw documentation stating that 2.72s were 38:14, or 2.714xxxxx
