Default weather stripping

I just removed my t-top frame and there was lots of silicone sealer. From the previouse owners attemp to repair a leak I guess. Is there a sealer or putty that goes in there? Is it like windshield ribbon? The stuff You put on the windshield frame before you install the winshield.

I used the black strip caulk made (I think) 3M. A buddy of mine that use to work for a GM dealer said that is what they used to seal leaks many moons ago.

Default Done That

Recently did a complete rubber on my 80. Not a fun day. 3M makes a weather strip cement that works good. Comes in eather black or yellow. Clean off the old glue. Put on both the rubber and the panel its going on. Tape it in place and let it set for a few hours (I gave it over night). When you go to mount the T-Top panel back on the car it will be a TIGHT FIT. I had to sit on mine. and it remained tight for about a mth. Take it slow and carefull. Try not to get the glue on any painted surface, its a bear to get off.

3m also makes a cleaner meant for weather strip glue that works great especially on glue that hasn't completely set.

I just put the 7 pieces(the t-tops and back window were already done) the last owner passed on to me on the car yesterday. I didn't have to mess with the t-tops, but the rest only took about 2 1/2 hours.

Check out these links....

Now that the back of the side windows is sealing, the car is much, much quieter with the windows up.

And it really was very easy compared to the last car I replaced all the weather stripping on....a C4.

Default Thanks guys. But I was talking about under the stainless T-Top frame

You know It goes across the windshield and down the center bar and across the back.I could have drilled out the popo rivets but took it off in one piece.I couldn't really tell how it was sealed to the car. There was a mish mosh of products.Every past owners attemp to repair a leak I guess. What does the general use? Thanks
