I about to remove my M20 tranny as part of an engine rebuild in '72 (350ci, 200hp). I'm going to replace the seals and O'rings to take care of all the leaks. I was wondering, is there anything else I should replace in the tranny while it is out?....I don't want to spend to many $$$ because engine rebuild is costing enough. But' if there is something I can do for a reasonable price, I'll consider it.
Replace the rear tailshaft bushing (the one the drive shaft yoke runs on). Cheap insurance for no leaks at your new rear seal. Polish the yoke with some emery paper as well. If it shifts fine and doesn't make any strange noises, leave the rest alone until you get the $$$ to do a total rebuild.
They have an E-Bay store if that's how you want to do business,, or give them a call, they're very well spoken in all that is gears.
You may need gears, they have them on hand and will ship them quickly.
If you decide to do a total rebuild, the countershaft needle bearings can be a pain, the answer is White Lithium and a dowel rod slightly smaller in diameter and slighhtly shorter than the countershaft.
