Default Leaky Brake Bleeder Screws

My rear calipers leak fluid at the bleeder screws. I'm afraid to tighten them any further. I just replaced the screws with new ones and they leak too. They only leak a miniscule amount but I feel they must be fixed.

If the seat is boogered up can it be resurfaced? Does the seat angle match the bleeder screw?

Just one of my on-going brake problems.

Thanks for any help.

How about a little teflon tape or thread sealant??? That might work...

no that won't do it, the screw is not sealing on the seat. Can you see in the hole to see what the seat looks like? Look at the bottom of the screw and see if your getting a ring all the way around the tip, could be a crack in the seat.

I'll check the seat tonight the best I can. A cracked seat is just what I was afraid of How do you fix it, drill it out and install one of those 1/4" npt plug inserts? Will look ugly with my open wheels.

Check your seats for cracks first. If there are no cracks check around for softer bleeders.

I used to buy them from Dr. Vette brakes,I think Stainless Steel Brake Corp. took them over.

Sometimes stainless bleeders will leak. I went back to regular ones and it stopped the problem.

Bronzebb---you might want to try the teflon tape as "lubricant" to drive the taper in tighter without any added torque.

I'm going back to regular bleeders. Very hard stainless on hard cast iron won't seat very well. Soft steel on cast iron should work much better. Only went to SS because of the originals rusting in. Here in CA the car never sees salt and rarely rain so rust shouldn't be a problem. I just hope my seats aren't cracked.

I took off the stainless bleeders, went back to "soft" std bleeder screws and no more leaks. So the answer is hard stainless on hard cast iron does note seal well. Just glad I changed them before cracking a seat or stripping the threads.

Default bleeder screw

Carters brake and Corvette in Livermore CA. has insert and screw replacement if the soft screw does not fix the leak
