Default header exhaust system for 77??

little Mouse told me the following:
You want
to end up with a dual 2 1/2 inch system that gets
rid of the catalitic converter.
questions:
  • is it legal in Houston Texas?
  • Which one to get for a 77 manual?
  • where to get it and get it installed?
  • How much does it cost?
thanks a lot for the help!

If you are in Houston go to the Midas on Hwy 6 and Clay Road (Bear Creek). They are always jammed with performance cars and keep Flowmasters and Magnaflows in stock. Your price will depend on your specific system. $400 range. On a 77 you will be okay as you only need a safety inspection.

Yes its legal in Texas for your year, its not required to pass smog check
Block Hugger ceramic coated headers and wrapped pipes will keep the heat out of the cabin, My headers just got here, got em for about $150 delivered from ebay. Your choice on mufflers based on how much noise you want to make, Most any good muffler shop will install it all for you, $200 to $300 would be my guess

Sixfooter, I wanna put block huggers on my '79 but couldn't find anyone who done it. Which make and model did you go with? Do you have AC? PS? PB? Did you have to modify in any way ? How do they fit? what about the rest of the system, is it custom or a kit ? Sorry for all of the questions but I wanna do it soon. Thanks!

If you want to keep the cost down, yank your old exhaust yourself and install the headers yourself. If you can take the loud sound of open headers on the way to the shop, you'll probably save almost $500.
