Default '70 Power Steering Problem

I have a '70 350/350 with a power steering problem. When I start the car, the wheels turn violently to the left. I have rebuilt the valve, replaced all the hoses, and replaced the fluid. I have not touched the cylinder so possibly that is the problem. I drive the car now with manual steering and it drives fine so the problem is definately related to the power steering components.

Did you get the hoses reversed on the cylinder?

sounds like it, the hoses from the cylander to the valve are supposed to cross over each other

The steering control valve is eithor assembled wrong or adjusted wrong, Jim Shea has an excellent thread somewhere that I can send you by email if needed.

Go to www.corvettefaq.com and click on Jim Shea's Steering Papers. Then click on Corvette Steering Papers in the upper right column. Scroll down to the Control Valve Papers and also the Power Steering Hose Pics. Download

I've had that happen to my '70 when I was attempting to rebuild my PS. It's been about 15 years, but I believe there's an adjustment on the valve you could look at. Check out the GM Chassis Service Manual.

Thanks for the comments everyone. I forgot to mention that the steering problem developed before I touched anything (strong pulling to the left). The problem developed gradually, becomeing worse with time. I rebuilt the valve and replaced the hoses thinking that I would fix the problem but I didn't. I am nearly certain that the hoses are correct and that the valve rebuild is correct but I will check these. Jim, thanks for the papers. I will read through these as well. It could be an adjustment problem.
