Default Differential Problem 1978

Last year I spent about $400.00 having the right output yoke repaired. The tip had bkoken loose. When everything gets warmed up I get a loud snapping noise in the right rear when starting out from a dead stop - It's worse if I'm turning to the right. The Vette shop mechanic told me that the common repair would involve having it machined, pinned together and glued. I found this questionable, but he told me that it appeared to have been repaired that way once before, and if he ordered a replacement it would come through the same way. I went ahead with his suggestion, and everything was fine for about 2K miles. Now I'm having the same problem again. Has anyone out there had experience with this, and what is the best fix? I don't mind spending more money to get it "fixed" - I just want the repairs to be done right and last longer than 2K miles.

There is nothing in the differential that is pinned or "glued" together. The fact that a "vette shop" worked on it and gave you a BS story like that is a bit scary. Learn more about this but doing a search here and either learn to do it yourself or get it to someone who knows what they're doing.
$400 for what ever repair was made is about a 1/3 of the cost a custom rebuild unit or 1/2 of a standard rebuilt unit.
