I placed my temp sending unit on the top of my intake manifold and the one I took out of the 454 was in the head. My temp readings seem to be high. When running down the road 160-180, in stop and go traffic 200-210. I have Dewitts alum rad and twin elect fans, 160 degree thermostat??
Have not checked with a gun. I am going to get a new sending unit as the one I am using came out of the 454.
I started looking at other engine pic's and I see a piece of foam on top of the rad. Mine is not there. I think I may be sucking hot engine air over the top of the rad. I am going to replace the foam and see what it does then???
I would go to a 185 or 192 thermostat, a 160 is like open the whole time and doesn't allow the fluid in the radiator too cool enough before being sent in the engine. Good Luck!
Hey Ranger my set up is the same as yours only my unit is installed in the upper radaitor hose......Even though my engine is just rebuilt I was getting high redings the 1st couple of weeks 200-210 then I went to check my radiator n she was almost 2 qts low..Aparently air in the system...So I filled her up n she has been running around 175-180 since...........Jerrylee///
