Just take your time, the cast pot metal (or whatever it is) will break very easily if you start wrestling with it
Remember: getting the cluster loose is only half the task. You will also have to go slowly disconnecting the instrument panel wiring. I've always found it easier to remove the passenger side dash pad for access.
My gauge lights went out the other day which is real annoying at night because now i have to use a flashlight on the highway. To drop the steering column, I know there are four bolts and the second two are right before the firewall. Anyone know where I should start looking? I assume it is a short somewhere since they all went out at once.

Do you have interior lights, fan, radio cigarette lighter ect;?
I suggest you start another thread with ALL the info and testing you have done
