7.5 hours of driving an 8 states later, I picked up the c3 I was buying froma forum member. Driving it down the highway, it felt very unstable... like wind was blowing it but without the wind. Pulled into the hotel for the night 5 miles away and what do I find? The friggin passenger side strut broke at the weld. It looks older than hell so I think its factory, so I drove all that way to get to drive it 5 miles and meet the seller hehe. Anyways while it is in the shop for new struts, is there anything else on these cars suspension wise that tends to break that I should replace? I'm thinking it probably needs new shocks but that can definitely wait.
Lots of stuff under there likely to be worn out, all the bushings, ball joints, tie rod ends..
Have the shop look it over before you head back out on the road.
Bad trailing arm bushings and loose or missing alignment shims would definitely do that. Although so would a whole host of other things too. I had a car with 2 bad shocks on opposite corners drive like that too.
I broke a heavy duty adjustable rear strut once during my autocrossing days. Looked like an fully opened "C" clamp on the end. It held the wheel up, sort of. /
the guy at Gaunts' performance said he would tighten some bolts but the other suspension pieces looked "ok" to drive on. I'm having it shipped hopefully for $295
