There are a lot of peopel here that are upgrading to the 700R4 to get the overdrive. Some of these are running a lot of horsepower through them but they need to be properly built for this. Do a search on 700R4 and you will find more than you want to read.

Just do like I did. Buy a 383, and don't say anything to the wifey about it. I was a big hit around the house for a long time!

If you need anything...just E-mail me, and there's probably a 1000 guys that have done the same as me(or you) on the forum. Most have forgotten more than I'll ever know.

I am jumping away from the 700 tranny in my 336 geared '72 here, and going to a 200 4r, reasons are simple....the 700 was put in back in late '97, lasted allmost 5 years and the 3/4 clutch pack went out, I redid it myself, and so it lasted about 3 years now....
IF you go look at the 700 sites you will find about 4 differant clutch packs available for the unit, and about 20 differant things to check over or modify to 'prevent' 3/4 clutch failures....
basically the problem is, the design is faulty in that there is inadequate cooling to the 3/4 clutch pack.....this is off the web, NOT anything I know about....
so given that.....I beleive my 700 has shifted it's last 3/4 clutch failure...
so I rebuilt that 200 4r myself and did a Trans Go shift kit...gotta be better than the Superior/Fairbanks shift kit in the 700....
