I am looking at a 68 Corvette with a 69 LH code 427. I know that this is not a correct motor for the car, but does anyone know what the LH came out of in 1969? The casting code on the block is 3935439 which is listed as a 2 or 4 bolt main. Is the LH a 2 or 4 bolt?
Mortec (www.mortec.com) lists it as a 68 or a 69 block with either 2 or 4 bolt mains available. The LH is probably what's going to determine what it REALLY is.
If you are certain that the engine came out of a 1969 model year vehicle (you've checked the casting date, right?), the LH code designates a 427/390 backed by a manual transmission in a full size Chevrolet (Biscayne, Bel Air, or Impala).
The 3935439 casting block was used through most of the 1968 model year and the early part of the 1969 model year. It was replaced by the 3963512 block (a 3955270 block was also used for a breif time) late in the 1968 calendar year although they do show up during the early part of 1969.
