Default bubble taillights?

ok, I seen them and now I want them... They are a bubble conversion kit available in every catalog for all 4 tail-lights... now, how do you get all four to light up when you hit the brakes? and are they replacement lenses? anybody not like them? (not having reverse lights is not an issue)..
thanks!

I have them, I didn't do the conversion, but I can go up under there and have a look-see and get back to you. This won't be until saturday or so because the car is at the booth and I am going to visit it then. However, from what I remember, the lines that control the brake lights origional, are spliced and routed to the 2 other lights. also, when I turn on my turn signal, both lights on that side light up(dunno if that is stock or not)....and as for backup lights, my backup with no peddle is super fast, so typically my foot hovers the breaks, but enough so that the break lights come on, and with all 4 shining it is plenty of light to see where your going(in reverse)...

I have them, check out the pic in my photo page. I made the rev lights(inners) light buy connecting the rev light wire under dash to the brake light circuit. This can also be done at the lights themselves.

I have this on my 79. I like them. The concept is simple. The kit gives you a pair of sockets that match your existing (outer) sockets. Wiring these two sockets in is the hard part. You just basically splice them into the wires going to your outer sockets, put in your new bulbs, put on the new lenses and install a heavy duty flasher and you're done. Pretty easy job. The only reason I say that the wiring was the hard part was because I was doing it myself, I didn't have someone there to push the brakes or turn on any other lights so that I could test each wire. So it took me a little extra time. I recommend you have a friend help you, makes this part so much easier. Good luck.

My '81 had bubble tail lights when I got it. They were just lenses that were placed over the existing lenses & held on by screws going into the original lenses. Stay away from this type of conversion as you end up with 3 holes in the (expensive) original lenses & very dim lights.

I have the bubble lenses on my '68 (easy swap) and the bubble conversion kit on my '80. The kit for my '80 (from ZIP Products) included pigtails and new sockets to convert the back-up lamps to taillights. I left the original back-up wiring under the car to allow me the ability to switch back to the stock set up should the time ever come.

I just put them on mine. The installation is pretty simple.

They use quick-connect electrical connectors that you lay both wires in and press down a piece of metal that connects the two wires. No cutting or stripping at all.

I did have to cut a larger hole in the bumper for my inner lights. The backup lights had an offset bulb and the hole through the bumper was at the top. Not a big deal, but kind of surprising. Others have said they didn't have this problem.

I was a little disappointed in the lenses because:
1. You can see the white base after you put the lenses on. Kind of noticeable against the black.
2. The sockets did not hold the bulbs very well (in one, the bulb could spin all the way around.
3. I had to add a spacer (some foam) at the base of each lens because they "teetered" from top to bottom. Maybe the rubber screw covers/spacers on my original lenses were too long

Also, I live near Zip, so I bought mine there. They said the $79 price was out of date and charged $99 :mad . Ecklers lists them for $85 (I think/thought), so I bought them because I figured that I'd about break even after shipping

I was also surprised to see Ecklers labels when I opened the box  , but I understand this happens with a lot of parts from all of the vendors.

Anyway, I really like the look and I think they're much more visible out on the road. I'm not really worried about the backups, but I may try to rig up something around the license plate someday (I used a quick tie to hold the empty backup sockets to the new sockets so that I can put them back in if I get grief at inspection. Good Luck with them and ask questions if you have any (while the answers may be fresh in my mind). OH, and save or sell your old lenses, they're expensive!

HI,
I have a 79- silver with red interior L-48. hat is normal temperaure when your engine is running, 185, 190, 195, 200, 210? I might have a temp problem and I need to compare with something.

It's not a very good pic (I still have a tough time with the digital camera), but... http://users.erols.com/jerryp58/corvette/bubble.jpg.
