Default 4150 vs 4500 carb height

Are they the same height?

I measured my 850dp and got 3,33 inch from the bottom (intake manifold attaching surface) to the top (the flange on which the air cleaner base rests) - yes I know i need to add the choke tower to that...

But is the dominator in that respect the same height or taller?

If you compare the older style regular 4150's and the older Dominators, they are almost identical. The newer HP series are I think about 1/4" taller.

I believe the Demons are almost a 1/4" shorter than Holleys from what I've heard. But that's just hearsay.

Additional question: what would be the cons of choosing a dominator for a street 540 engine instead of say a 1000/950cfm 4150?

Do the domitarors lack any idle adjusting or mid range capabilities? Somebody once told that dominators are only good in on/off usage like drag race...

All depends on how much motor you have and what you want to do. As a general rule, Dominators don't have as refined of a cruising circuitry as most 4150's, but they can be made to work pretty easily. It helps to begin with the right one. I like using the 2 circuit ones instead of the ones with 3, PV's on front side and annular boosters. I've been running mine for many years on the street and hwy. It even gets decent mileage considering what it's feeding.

If you look at Holley # 8082..it is a pretty decent start. Mine is a 9375 that I spent a lot of time modifying, but the 8082 starts out with a lot of the stuff I added.

That being said, you can easily break 800HP with a well built 1000CFM style Holley.
