I am considering putting side-pipes on my car. I do not know if I want to go original or not. Original as I have learned on the forum are real expensive. The car is not an original side-pipe car so even if they are factory style they won't be original. I am beginning to think I can get better performance out of a wider pipe. The car in question is a 69 427 Roadster.
I would love to see pictures of your cars with pipes on them. I would also love to see pictures of what the rear valance looks like with the exhaust holes filled, or empty etc...
When I redo my exhaust I may go with sidepipes (as they look  and keep a lot of heat out from under the car) , I was wondering if you can put 3" exhaust on the sidepipe and if you get more HP out of sidepipes than regular exhaust... Can you do a muffler setup somewhow, I heard chambered exhaust isn't that good for HP...
Can you setup sidepipes with mufflers instead of chambered exhaust? If so, what mufflers give the most HP? you can't use standard mufflers, can you? Would canisters work well? Because they'd have a Long pipe attached, they wouldn't put out that rediculously loud ricer sound that hondas have, right? But you'd get a lot of HP out of them?
I think most of the pipes I saw were of the Hooker style, heres a pic of the factory style, but I have the fiberglass covers, the original covers are in need of some serious refurbushing, but maybe someday.
Great to see you got it down. Drop me a line anytime. I will be looking to buy a set of your inserts for my Hooker pipes soon as I pay some bills off.

I have a similar question. I like the look of the fiberglass covers that replicate the GM origionals. What kind of actual side pipe system do you have to use that will fit under these covers. Does it have to be the stock type or are there after market systems that will fit under the covers?
Thanks for the pics guys, I just finished wiping the drool off the keyboard. Those are all some seriously fat pipes. After seeing the Yellow 69 Roadster, which is what I have, I think I am going to have to go with factory style. They look great. I may install reverse lights in the holes.
these are original GM-sidepipes, which are offered only in 1969 as a RPO from factory.
They are chromed metal with dark gray inlets. Under that covers are the mufflers.
You can get the mufflers f.e. from Mid America or Eckler's, but to get the original covers is quite more difficult and expensive. I think they trade the OEM or NOS covers for amoung 1800,- $/pair. But you can try ebay as well. I've seen original covers there for much less.
It would be fine, if we could share some pics of our cars. So end me an email, I will answers soon.
