Just called up my local quickie-lube place & asked how much to change the oil & put in Mobil 1. He gives me a price, then says "it's extra for the mobil one filter, and you really need to use the mobil one filter with mobil one." Is he full of hooey, or should you use a different filter for synthetics than for regular ol' dinosaur squeezins?
I think hes smokin somethin. Ive never even seen a Mobil-1 filter. I use the oil though, and its good stuff. As long as your car has good oil control i. e. not burning or leaking, the Mobil-1 is worth the extra$.
Mobil1 filters are nice, certainly better than Fram (except the HP series), but there is absolutely no reason you need to use a Mobil1 filter with Mobil1 oil. Mobil1 filters are more expensive than other filters, except K&N and the Fram HP series. Purolator and NAPA Gold filters are good filters for the money.
Alot of opinions regarding oil and filters. My opinion - if you want synthetic, go with either Mobil1 or Redline.
For non-synthetic oil, I like Valvoline VR1 racing oil.
For oil filters, Mobil1 and K&N are very good premium filters, but Purolator and NAPA Gold are very good as well. If you have upgraded to a racing remote filter or a racing oil filter adapter, Fram HP 6 and K&N make the ultimate filters. They are high flow with 13/16" inlets and 10 micron filtering elements.
A magnetic plug or pan magnet is a very good addition. The proof is in the fact that they pick up any ferrous material and prevent it from circulating throught the engine, increasing bearing wear.
I thought I'd say this just to clarify any confusion, the NAPA filters are made by WIX so are identical, so don't pass up a WIX looking for a NAPA filter.
I use mobil1 oil and mobil 1 filter because i think this is a awesome product, when I dont have time to change my oil or if its to hot down here in houston, i normally go to quick lube, I normally supplied my oil and filter and they do the work and charge me around eight dollars, its a lot cheaper than using their mobil products, last time i went i got a pleasant surprise after they change the oil and filter they told me not to worry and it was free. there were three young kids and they told me they enjoyed looking at my engine and wortking on it.
