I have the TCI Competition TH350 with manual valve bodies and reverse pattern on the shifter. The transmission had to be rebuilt after about 4K miles. The clutch packs had to be replaced and all the bushings were shot. When I had it rebuilt, they used 1" bushings as the standard TCI bushings were only 1/2". I have not had a problem at all since it was rebuilt.
They do not have a warranty per se but they did offer to completely rebuild the transmission and converter for $500 plus shipping. I opted to have it rebuilt locally. I never had a problem with the converter but the transmission did blow up after only 4K miles. I have only put about 2K on it since it was rebuilt, but no problems and very happy with the result. I have heard bad things about TCI and was very skeptical when my transmission went out, but all in all I am happy with the product.
I'd like to hear more positive (if any) & negative feedback on this TCI subject, as I was looking at purchasing one?? Maybe not anymore. This forum is great for these things, could save others alot of money if not alot of headaches.
I had my th350 rebuilt by a local shop that builds for a lot of drag racers. He uses several TCI components in his builds but would not recommend thier streetfighter trannys. He also said they had bushing quality problems.
well i was afraid of this responce i bought a streetfighter for my 73 454 and had a chattering problem the first day of installaton i called tci and was told that there was probably some mild contaminatoin and it would clear out,two days later it would just popout of drive for no reason i called again and was told to just give it a little time and was told not to worry so i said i wanted it logged for warranty reasons they said no problem, two weeks later same problems called again same story finally the trans ddid seem to clear itself out and seemed to work fine.8 months and only 750 miles later the tranny started coming out of gear again and then started puking fluid like crazy and finally no more tranny.well no problem i thought i called tci they gave me to jerry in warranty and after trying to explain the calls i made before his responce was oh well and after finally arguing with jerry i was finally told tough s__t and dont call back.nice way to do buisness
i would advise to stay away from this place.i was told about hughes but i dont know much about them either
thanksazkid
FWIW, I've had positive experiences dealing with their tech consultants for choosing a proper converter for my application, and have used their flexplates and converters without problems for years.
For trannies, I would trust a local guy who works on only one transmission at a time, and does the whole job himeslf, rather than a large company where chances are your transmission gets touched by 3-4 guys at different stations, then glossed over by the QC guy before it ships out.
