I may be missing something here, but the shift cable routes through the floor and around to a mounting bracket on the side of the pan (TH400, anyway -- 350 ought to be similar). Cable end then connects to selector on tranny. If memory serves, the AIM shows cable routing, the connection, and a note on getting the slack out of the cable.
