Default Starter problems 80

I need some info. about the starter on 80. I have an 80 with headers and a 4 speed trany, the other day the temp. was in the mid. 80 s I drove about 50 miles at 70 + mph. and the temp. gauge held at 180 to 190. The car ran well until
I stopped at a light and I stalled it. I tryed to re start it and there was no activity from the starter. Two nice kids gave me a push and I popped the clutch and it started. I drove home and shut it down for about 20 min. After sitting 20 min. it started with no problem. There is no heat shield on my starter (does it come with one?) I think the problem is heat, maybe from the headers, or no shield on the starter. If some one has had this problem your input will be appreciated

Thanks Joe

Install a mini starter. I had same problem and after installing Powermaster 180. No more starter problems.

I had the same problem. I installed a heat shield/wrap on my old starter and it kind of helped out. I finally got sick of worrying and installed a new starter and the heat shield and I haven't had any problems since.

You might get away with just cleaning the contacts inside the starter solenoid & make sure all the electrical connections are tight & clean of dirt & oxidation.

I added a starter heat shield to mine. No problems since.
