I have an '82 with Cruise Control (non-functional) and a bad speedo cable.
I have NO INTEREST in repairing or using my cruise control. I do all of my driving in city traffic and the car is a keeper, so "collector" or resale value is of no concern to me. If I don't need something on the car (smog equipment, hood air-flapper, etc) I remove it.
Rather than replace BOTH cables (upper & lower), can I just use the single speedo cable for '77-82s W/O cruise control?
You should be able to use the single cable from a non cruise control '82. The 700R4 needs a slightly longer cable than the '80 or '81 automatics. I believe you can get the cable from GM restoration parts.

As the guys above have said, the answer is yes. You also get the added bonus that if the problem with your speedo is the gears in the cruise control transducer, tht problem will be solved as well.
