Default Rear Diff Confusion - Identifying and Lube

I'm confused about (a) whether my '71 has a "standard" differential or a positraction differential, and
(b) which type of lube (plus the additive?) to use. After reading past posts I didn't get a warm
fuzzy that a consensus was reached on what lube(s) to use. And my shop manual was of little help in
telling me what kind of rear end I have (although my wife would tell you... well I better not discuss that
here! ).

Any suggestions much appreciated!

Default Re: Rear Diff Confusion - Identifying and Lube (rollavette71)

They were all positraction in 1971.

I used 2 bottles of GM gear oil and one bottle of limited slip additive bought at my local GM dealership. There may be people who use other oils, but most people will say you can't go wrong with the GM products.
