Default Strut Rod Adjustment

Since I am taking the pumpkin down, I need to disconnect the Strut Rod... what a better time to put new bushings in the strut rods as the ones I have are rotten.

When I am ready to put everything back together, how do I get the camber adjusted properly with the strut rods?

Three ways to do it that I know of.

The easiest is to mark the camber bolt to the rod frame before removal. At least then you can get it back to where it was.

Second method works if you plan to paint the strut rods (thus covering your marks). Put it up on stands to do the work. Measure the difference from level at each rim. Write it down and put it back the same way when back together (same caveate as #1).

Third: Don't worry about it and have an alignment done properly when you're done. By far your best choice.

I would do the first choise, but new bushings ruins this option.

Option2
The difference from level?? I don't get it?

Option 3... what are they going to do that I cant?

1: This assumes that the camber was set properly BEFORE the bushings wore out. If they were readjusted after worn.. well they shouldn't have done that.

2. Place a level vertically on the rim. The top of the rime will be slightly outboard. Move the level out from the bottom untilthe bubble is centred. Measure the DIFFERENCE from the edge og the rim to the level.

3. They are going to put it on a rack and bring both the front and rear rims back to factory specs to a fraction of an inch and degree. Nothing like having the right tools to do the job properly.

Use $15,000 of very accurate measuring equipment.

I've always used the level method and have never had abnormal tire wear.

Default How good?

With just a level and a string, you definitely can get it "good enough for who it's for", a quote I've heard way to often. Want it right, improve the archaic design and bring it up to the '70's level of other cars? Get the VB&P smart struts, then take it to someone that has a clue about total adjustment. Granted, it's an expense, but I feel it's the single best thing that you can do for the rear end set-up.
